No sound device detected ?

I have just been given a system with a Gigabyte GA-8ST800 and I have done a fresh instal and I have no sound? I get the message "No sound devise detected" when I run DX program. In the bios the AC97 is enabled, any ideas?

did you load the latest drivers for the sound card?

You can get them from the makers of the motherboard website

the ac97 may be enabled, but you usually have another setting to enable the onboard sound, as well as that one. look for integrated peripherals or similar in the bios.

re the drivers, I thought the bios/chipset would contain the basics for that? Its AC97 on board sound.

In the second link from your last thread you will find the audio driver. I'll repost the link here. Download and install the driver.
