oh and if youve got some earphones, try plugging them where your speakers would plug in, if the sound cards good, there will be sound! |

ok, sorry I went AWOL for so long. If I tap the mic, I can hear sound. Is that close enough? Also, I have no earphones |

At the very least, it means there is something going on through the sound card.
Here, try this if you feel capable. Turn off the computer. Get a phillips head screwdriver and open up the computer case. Make sure you touch the metal frame and touch it to ground yourself. Find the sound card, unscrew the screw that holds it in place, pull the card out and look at the card to see if anything looks burnt or not right and then reinsert the card firmly and screw everything back together and start the computer and see if it starts working again. Sometimes that's all it takes. |

have you tried to install new drivers for the sound card? Easy enough to do, just remove the sound card from your device list in device manager and reboot. |
