ASUS P4S800D sound issue - bad drivers messed the sound and it doesnt work , help :(

okay , you may laugh now but let me explain as short as i can
my ASUS P4S800D has support for 5.1 surround and i bought some new zalman 5.1 headphones with 3 inputs , i tried to figure out how to use them since i have only , input , output , mic slots there , couldnt find front , rear , center so i didnt know how to plug it , but the main issue now , is that i tried to download some sound drivers cuz i was thinking it was some software , realtek something , and suddenly my pc crushed in the middle for some reason ,

when i tried to run windows again , my sound was gone , vanished

i checked the devince manager and i saw many codecs and othe synths and weird things there that had a yello "!" sign meaning it doesnt work correctly.

i tried everything , downloaded soundmax drivers , but it kept saying that no soundmax drivers were found.
i tried VIA AC97 drivers but none work
my mainboard's support CD was lost and i am not even sure wether or not i need it to fix my soundcard.

i tried many different websites with drivers cuz i know that in the mainboard manual it says that it uses ADI SOUNDMAX 1980 AC'97 , soundcard which is onboard ofcorse. but i just couldn't find anything on the net =[

so now i am stuck without a sound cuz of my own stupidity or curioucity , call it what you will.

i am here to ask you if somebody could help me solve this issue please or direct me to some pointers that may solve it.

SOUNDMAX installations wouldnt work , it installs the whole thing then says that no soundmax drivers were found and i should restart my pc and run the setup again , done that and still same error.

tried all different AC97 drivers from via website and other websites and it just says that no via ac97 hardware were found , but i do know that my mainboard is working based on via ac97 sound card which is onboard.

those are the two things i tried so far
ofcorse i tried the windows xp cd , but it did not find the drivers , so i used it from system32/drivers , but aperanetly its just the same driver that didn't work.
i tried to do a rollback on drivers but unfortunately i did not have any drivers backed up so the only way to fix it is to get new drivers downloaded or something


please advice me with what i should do.

go to the asus website and fnd the correct driver

go to device manager and uninstall the sound card..then reboot and install the new drivers


I think the way the 5.1 stuff works is that the "mic" jack probably functions also as an output....check the manual...maybe there are soem configuration setting somewhere to be set to make the mic jack work as an output

the manual will also be easily found on asus site

i tried to do that
now something really went bad
i went ot asus website and i found soundmax drivers there
i even updated the bios for my mainboard using the asus auto update tool
i uninstalled the audio drivers and did restart
then suddenly walla it says "new hardware found" and then says "REALTEK AC 97 "
and then it promted me to install that , so i did , and i got this warning message from windows that the drivers are not verfied and microsoft logo signed etc.

i clicked "continue anyway" , it reached 100% , then suddenly i get a full pc crash , saying that my pc was stopped to prevent severe damage to my system.

i restarted , now both my cdrw and dvdrw are gone from the my computer , in device manager they are both yellow , in motherboard , some plug and play thing is also with the yellow mark ..


now everything is so messed up that i lost all hope

no sound , no cdroms , and just crashes.

the weird thing is that after it says it found realtek ac 97 , i tried to do advanced installation for drivers and selected soundmax from the list , then it actually installed the soundmax drivers , but same issue , it wouldn't work , it shows soundmax in device manager but also with the yellow mark near the icon


i don't understand how can a simple driver mess up my system so bad that i don't even know what to do anymore

cdroms are gone ,
sound is gone

i wonder what will go next... my mind perhaps
