Good enough 5,1 sound??
Hi there hi there..... Oo
I was thinking of buying cheap 5.1 sound. Wattage doesn't matter to me (even though I have heard that it doesn't matter as much in other websites) and I don't set the speakers so blazingly and deafeningly loud... Of course I'd want some bass to enjoy my Halo tunes!
Is this ok?

Oh, and me mobo already supports 5.1 sound...so...umm.... would I get better sound anyways if I went from the "Realtek 97" onboard to whatever this card gives me?

I doubt you would notice a difference using the card unless your an Audiophile and using MUCH better speakers...

Those set of speakers aren't gonna give you the bass responce you would like from the Halo soundtracks.
Try to find a pair that can go at least down to 50hz and post back.
When you look for the 50hz frequency, check in the Frequency Range part of the specs.

Do those puppies look promising? I love the rumbly effect from the bass!
I'm not really much of an audiophile, I would say I'm the above average casual user!

The second one doesnt look good to me. My friend has one and it blows beyond belief. I would suggest going up to atleast a set that is offered by creative or logitech. The 530 by logitech would be a very decent system.

I would suggest that too, but if he is looking for $25 speakers, I am sure he is not wanting to get $50-$80 speakers.

ehh... I just wanted to switch from my 2.1 speakers (some kind of 15Wor something Labtec Speakers, had it since 1999! O.O) Wondering if any of those speaker suggestions would at least be better than those 6 year old things.

Anything thats better than what i have now for cheap is what i'm lookin for!Mac Mini—2Ghz—2GB RAM—Snow Leopard

Well, I'll keep my mind on those logitechs, but wondering, whats the difference of OEM and Retail? What am I missing in the OEM package? Hopefully I'm not missing cables or anything important like that... I dont mind the extra bit of pricing in the retail.

OEm means that everything will come in a brown box, and the warranty may be less than the retail. I'm not to sure about OEM vs Retail on speakers with warranty.
But all the wires should be present in the OEM version.

I only have 28 bux in my wallet, and I get 20 bux for helping to clean teh house.

Im sure even these would be quite an upgrade from what you have if your not looking to spend too much money...
the trouble with 5.1 is the back satelites... few people have a good setup that allows easy use of the back speakers...
most logitechs have pretty decent bass and these are MUCH better sounding than the DCT ones you linked ...

My advice is not to get the really cheap 5.1 because you may be in for a disappointment. Specs mean nothing and I remember that those things dont have any kind of musical coherence whatsoever. And I am not saying this in comparison to my setup... I am saying this relative to nothing. The sub, if you look closely, is made of 5mm plastic. The sats are about .5 pounds and the distortion of the entire setup is abysmal.
If you want to waste your money on that, then buy it. If you want something that is decent, save up a little and get the 530.Audio 1337:

Dog, we can divide the country in to two groups - one camp who has dealt with the IRS and one camp who hasn't. You have to see the big picture to see how bad these scandals are, and too many...
