How to MIDI interface to USB?

i want to put a set of digital drums (looking at yamahas) in my system, but i have no MIDI (onboard 6ch), no available slot, & i need to figure out how to cheeeeply do this.

    will "line-in" or "mic" work?

Well, midi usually connects to a game port via adapter. Then u can route the midi signal to a sampler or whatever.

However having an on board means no asio and that means youll likely get huge latency.

The question is what you want to do with the drums and what do you mean by system?

I believe you need something like this: http://www.andysmusiconline.com/Yama...amaha_ux16.htm (MIDI/USB converter)

YOU DONT NEED A MIDI TO USB!!!

It will give you higher latency and cost more! You need a midi-pc interface, these things cost around $1, and give you lower latency than any other solution. All you need to do is go to your local music store and ask them for a midi to game port adapter. Game ports come standard with ALL pcs. You can even build yr own: link
