| Sigmatel sound card and a mic
Hi folks!
I've got a problem with a mic and I think it's my sound card's fault (but correct me if I'm wrong).
The microphone is working, because I tried it out at an another laptop. I am using a Fujitsu laptop, the (integrated) sound card is SigmaTel Audio (or it seems to be so).
I am sure that the volume and audio settings are fine and the mic is not muted.
Can it be that this sound card is not supporting a microphone or disturbes it in some way?? Because I've read also some complains on other pages....
Anyway.
My question is, if it IS the sound card, what should I do? Should/Could I get a new driver, which supports audio imput? If yes, how do I know, which is the right one? Or is there no other way than buying a new sound card???
I hope, somebody can help me!
frustrated,

I doubt it's a microphone incompatibility. Have you verified in your mixer that the microphone isn't muted? Have you selected the microphone input as your recording device? If it's available, try checking the "mic boost" option. |

Hi DanU, thanks for your imput!
Unfortunatelly, I am quite sure that the audio settings are fine - the mic is not muted and I tried also the microphone boost - with no success
so, what should be the next steps? do you have any other ideas? |

Definitely try the driver update. That's always a good idea.
Maybe your mic port is busted? Have you tried another mic?
Since you have a laptop your upgrade options are limited. The good news is that there are several good external USB sound adapters that work very well with laptops. My friend uses the Philips Aurilium with his laptops. You can also get a Creative Extigy. I've heard that the sound quality on both is very good. |

Since you have a laptop you should download any drivers from Fujitsu rather than try to install generic drivers. |

Did you check your recording settings, it what you get when you go to volume control, options, properties, recording, ok. You should get a whole new mixer, and check the box under mic.

I had the same problem with my Fujitsu P1610. First it worked OK. One day I conected a speaker jack, it worked well but when I disconnected the external speaker the internal speaker didn't work. I contacted Fujitsu'Support and they told me to reinstall the soundar driver what I did. But the problem remains. If I connect a mic or an external speaker then I have to leave them connected all the time because once they're plugged out the is no sound coming out of the computer nor coming in to it.
Any ideas?From Sergio Lobo |
