| Dish Network satellite and TV Tuner card question
[1] I just installed a Hauppauge WinTV Go-Plus tv tuner card in my pc. I split the cable between the satellite receiver and the tv and ran it to the tuner card. The tv tuner card works fine but only gets the same show that is on the television. The question is, can I get a different channel than what is playing on the television without paying for another satellite receiver and service for it? My guess is I cannot but ....
[2] I haven't been able to record any video using the tv card. It is supposed to capture video but I keep getting blank recordings or maybe the recordings I make won't play back. I read all the FAQ for the card and emailed tech support and got no response. Can anyone with experience with this card make any suggestions?
THANKS

Set your card to antenna and tune to channel 3. Change your station in the room with the Sat. receiver and record in the computer room.
I'm running the same kind of situation here. I also installed a antenna switch to go to cable TV. Cable TV tuning works with your TV Tuner card.
Cheers! |

The only way you can watch something different on the hauppauge is if the satellite receiver has dual tuners. You'd run one to the tv set and the other to your PC.

| No you can't. You need a receiver to decode the signal sent from the LNB.
[EDIT]: Just a little too slow...lol. |

Yea that's what I thought but I thought maybe someone else knew something I didn't.
Re: [2], I got a reply from Hauppauge tech support and I am now able to record video with the tv card, very cool. Not bad for a $30 card. |

can't spilt the cable if it is a single tuner you would need a 322 dual turner to accoplish that if u are signed that 18 month or 24 month aggrement then u can get a free upgrade for the 322 and use the tv2 out put for ur pc and keep the tv1 on the tv. if u have anymore question let me know |

sorry i'ma bit late to this discussion lol. but if you do decide to upgrade keep in mind that the dual tuners require a phone line which i find a bit dumb. you still have the option to plug the phone line in or not but keep in mind that if it you don't they charge an additional phone line fee of 5 dollars and a programming access fee of 10 bucks. so your better off hooking up the phone line. same apply's with the dvr except they charge 6 dollars regardless for the dvr whether or not the phone line is plugged in. |
