| Taking line ouput into computer and playing it real time
I want to be able to take the output from my Roady2 XM reciever and have it play in real time through my PC's speakers, how can I do this? I have the right cords but it's a matter of what software.
The reason being is it's a pain to get behind my PC and swap the cables whenever I switch off the receiver. |

I dont know what your trying to do exactly. Did you want to do this by going without wires? If you only have one input on your audio card you would have to split it. Can you be a little more clear? |

I haven't done it in a while, but I used to plug in my stereo to the input on my sound card and play records on what ever media player I had. It should be the same thing.
Can't you get that direct over the internet with you susciption?

I have 56k also - no streaming for me!
OK, here's the order it needs to go:
XM receiver line out > computer input > computer speaker output.
I have a 1/8" mini male-to-male cable that could hook from the receiver to my computer. Now, all I need to do is have the computer take whatever input is being recieved from the microphone or line-in (don't know if I have that) and play it through my speakers without needing to record it and play it back. |

Ok so, take 1/8th inch stereo male from xm to stereo line in of sound card..mic input would be a mono input and you would lose one side of the stereo signal....and in speaker control panel on the bottom of the task bar on the right side, open it up and make sure "line in" is not muted and volume is up. Make sure master volume is up as well and not muted. That should do it. Just make sure output your using from xm is a line level strength. A headphone out would do it, or if the have anything marked...line out. If you have anything like Musicmatch you could capture it as a wave file and burn it to a disk ......hmmmmmmm. |

Or get a Y input adaptor (or build your own) for your speakers, and skip your computer completely.

Thanks for the ideas - as for the line-in problem....
It looks like my soundcard plays whatever is coming through the line-in and I don't have to change anything - so it works wonderfully. |
