Try to keep thread names useful, Your last one, "newbie" didnt exactly tell people the thread was about IPODs. You made a much better thread this time around. Anyways, I have had MP3 players from Creative and now Apple. I have the new IPOD Video. For music it rocks, for short clips its cool, but battery life for video sucks. If you want video get nothing less than the 60GB which should roughly add an hour of video play back. With my 30GB IPOD if I hit play and dont touch a thing I can get about an hour and a half out of a full charge but thats it. If I mess around with the volume alot or pause or fast forward and such the battery is shot in even less time. I would also recomend checking out Creatives new Vision:M MP3 player/video if you are interested in video, it cliams a 4 hour battery life over the ipods 2.

hey thanks for that..ive seen the vision:m...love the specs but it doesnt look good....(for soem reason, i find it looking like a cheap imitation.....that IMO anyway...)....i love the iPod's look but I run/jog alot, and i'd love to use this ipod while doing that...im just wondering if it will handle it or else ill get the 4gb nano...(which wouldnt contain ALL my songs...

)
thanks for the tip though

Well I have gone running with my IPOD and my creative Hard Drive based player. Each has a buffer which means it only uses the hard drive every couple of songs for a short ammount of time. I would suggest a solid state player like the nano for heave activity in the end. 4GB is tons of music. When I look at my most played list and such I generally only have about a 2 gigs of most played which easily fits on the small players and keeps entertained on my jogs, plus I wouldnt mind changing it out once a week, only takes a few minutes if that

just make sure you get a case for the iPods. the one it comes with is sufficient but if you want to take care of it get a real case otherwise it could get really scratched... (apple gets carried away with making their products sexy sometimes) and if its scratched watching video is useless

So all of these are ugly compared to the same design and look of the ipod since it came out, and these are just ugly anyways, and I love ipods because i want to fit it with all the poddies in the world, and people will not love me if i dont have an ipod, and if i dont have a mp3 player thats an ipod that will make people think im different, and i want to fit it.... etc... etc... etc...
here are some great looking players

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16855150043
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16855167007
and if you think watchign videos on an ipod screen is cool you have issues also, check this out http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16855102223
So what im saying, is that ipod is not a great product do some research from people that own one, ask them what they "dislike" about it rather than like, it doesnt even play mp3s, it converts them to different files anyways, so you cant even call it an mp3 player but a AAC(or wahtever the hell it is).
thats my buzz, love you all,

Ipod's can play MP3's natively. Where did you hear from otherwise?

Also comparing the size of the creative video player to the ipod video is laughable. The creative is HUGE! Not something to carry around easily for a "hand held" music player/video playerAudio support MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store, M4A, M4B, M4P), Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4) and WAV AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF

Personally, I like the creative Zen as an mp3 player compared to the Ipod. But as far as videomodels and such, I really don't know, the creative one is a boat.

The video creative is huge, and the point of being huge, is because it was designed to play video. Unlike the screen on the ipod it just to small, plus if you get your screen scratched up because of the low quality plastic, then whats the point of watching movies? But thats my opinion. I'm not going to continue this, because there is no point in arguing, this sounds just like a battle between Apple VS Pc, which is better etc... So i just dont want to get too much involved because remember, we Pc use the demonic software from hell, and the G5 processor on a apple beats anything on the Peeeceee, also apples can do photoshop better, let me say again, do photoshop better, and it can do photoshop better. Never heard this conversation before?
All im saying is that I'd prefer anything thats different from an Ipod, and it was my opinion, and I agree with you guys, if you really like it buy it, but the question of this thread was "SHOULD I BUY AN IPOD" and i say no, because technically and other reasons, there are better players out there, and you should do your research before dropping 400 dollars on a 60gig video.

Buy the iPod. Go for the 30gb while you're at it.
I had the Nano 4GB and the 30GB with me at home for comparisons sake.. and the 30GB, to me, was a better Pod. Larger screen, ability to play video (if you want to... not necessarily a solo video player), small, skinny, and easy to navigate.
I really really like my iPod. At first, I was like - who are these people with all these iPods? Are they smoking the same crack?
But, now that I've had mine for over a month.... its been with me through music, through recorded school lectures, even through some videos. Good little companion!
Go for the iPod.
There are other players out there, but in the end... if you feel like you can live without an FM tuner, a voice recorder, and you dont need to feel like you have to buy a non-iPod player to be cool and non-conformist (like aramazd
.. please)... then get the iPod.
If you need the FM tuner, the voice recorder, and other bells and whistles - then get the other products.Audio 1337:

I was thinking of getting myself either an Ipod Nano (Black, 4GB) or maybe that Ipod Video (Black, 30GB)

I only have 2.5GB of musics, but I have some funny videos to watch now and then.
