    "Stereo Mix" audio recording option

I recently purchased a new computer and I used to be able to record my radio internet streams directly from "stereo mix" recording source with my Creative Mediasource Organizer. After I loaded in the Creative Mediasource Organizer into my new computer, it no longer has the "stereo mix" option to record (it only offers "microphone", "line in" or "rear mic". I remember specifically it having about 4 more recording sources.

I'm not very tech savvy but I think it's because of my sound card? I used to have AC97 or something like that and now I have Sigma Tel Audio.

My question is what is the easiest way to allow for "stereo mix" recording again?

    Thanks,

    MJ

http://list.driverguide.com/list/company1690/ Link #1 and #3 are for AC97. Link one is for
the SigmaTel codec driver. This is one possible patch to allow the full use of the CMO on the
new card with the installation of the driver set there. Otherwise you are dealing with going
back to the old card since it runs with the CMO package.

Thanks for the reply. I gave it a try with no luck. I might just go back to the old card.

This is often the case when swapping brands where one has features different from those
other alternatives. Which model Creative card do you have? If you are not running 2K or XP
at present don't go with Audigy 4 line yet. Those two models lack support for 9x-ME. That is
one thing that was found out in november when an Audigy 2 ZS Gamer suddenly quit. Now
another card has to be put in since 98 is on a second drive just to get sound. Creative will
hear about that one soon enough.

I have this EXACT same problem. I just got a new computer and there is no option for it. I paid a lot of money for this computer too and I work with audio so I need this option. I don't really want to go buy and install an entirely new sound card. Is there any way to get this option back? I bought a Dell XPS400; SigmaTel audio.

DELL XPS M1210 Sigmatel soundcard streaming broadcasting stereo mix

I have a new ( June 2007) DELL XPS M1210 with an integrated Sigmatel STAC 9200 soundcard and 945GM/945PM motherboard. I can not stream and broadcast music. I also tried all drivers in LG site and can not get the neccassary functions. Dell supplies cut down driver version as standard. Help please with locating the right driver............

I list below all the drivers I have already tried, only one which works is the one from DELL site for my XPS1210 tag No 37R0Z2J and that one is no good to me as it is the original one and does not allow streaming / broadcast and stereo mix functions.
I have tried all three drivers recommended in the LG http://us.lgservice.com/ site recommended in the forum site below and non of them worked:
    http://www.ekhoury.com/2006/08/25/sigmatel-stereo-mix-support-for-dells/
Most of the users there were happy with the result of LG drives but none of them were using XPS notebook, however it is worth reading thier comments.

I have on my notebook the following drivers:
Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC Version 5.10.0.4691 ( 30/08/2005)
Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC Version 5.10.0.4866 ( 12/12/2005)
Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC Version 5.10.0.4995 ( 24/03/2006)
Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC Version 5.10.0.5031.0 ( 27/04/2006)
They all return code 10 and will not work
I have also tried drivers R108276 and R122161
As mentioned above the only one which appears to work is DELL standard which does not have the required functions
I am getting desperate and look forward to expert's technical feedback ASAP......... Thank you

I'm not familiar with any of the hardware you have so can't help much there but an alternative is Tunebite Premium for about $25.00. It shows up in your Audio Devices as a sound card you can select for playback and recording and captures whatever is playing through your sound card regardless of source. Maybe not the solution you'd prefer but if you need this kind of functionality and have several different computers and sound cards that don't play nice together it might just be the ticket.

Tunebite idea did not work for me

I have an Intel DG965OTMKR main board with integrated SigmaTel HD Audio. None of the stream capture programs I tried found any output on Sound Mapper, etc. The same was true when I tried Tunebite Premium. In fact, Tunebite has an autodetect feature which indicated the SigmaTel driver did not support stream capture and that the only way to capture streams with this audio solution is to connect Line Out to Line In.

Obviously, that also works for all other devices and programs with this problem. However, that is not an all digital solution.

I did contact SigmaTel who indicated that Intel did request the stream capture feature to be included in a future release of the SigmaTel HD Audio driver. (Intel distributes the driver from their support site, but they did not write it and they do not maintain it.) SigmaTel will not distribute the driver; they only provide it to Intel. SigmaTel indicated the timeframe for release of this feature should be about Nov-2007. Of course, Intel will only post the driver after qualifying it, so it might be a few weeks later before it appears.

Talking Sigmatel Stereo Mix driver for Vista SOLUTION

Download this driver and install in windows xp sp2 mode if you are using vista.
    http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R171789.exe

Works for sigmatel stac c-major 92xx

    GOOD LUCK!

Worked on my dell inspiron 1520, i hope it will work for other machines too using the sigmatel vista

IF you have a different model sigmatel try installing other XP drivers using compatibility mode.

let me know if it works, spent hours finding the solution. I hate dell and all companies who did this for the greedy RIAA, shame on dell for siding with RIAA and not their customers may their profits burn for that.

Question from a newbie using a Dell 1520 - I am using Vista, how do I download it in "windows xp sp2 mode" ? Do you mean uninstall Vista and install Windows XP as the operating system?

Mevermind. I followed a google search and found this that explained it -
I tried it and now have "stereo mix" on my Dell inspiron 1520 With Vista!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------
Just thought I'd let you know that over on notebookforums, a really cool discovery has been made:

    http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...169312&page=33

Basically, if you grab the XP drivers from:
    http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=235761

Then use winrar or a similar program to expand the EXE archive to a folder. Go into the folder, find setup.exe and right-click it go to properties. Then go to the compatibility tab and select Windows XP compatibility and hit ok.

Then run that setup.exe, and after a few minutes, you're set! Don't even need to reboot.

I've tested it here, and stereo mix works perfectly under vista from this method.

    Cheers!

Hey Numbernine dude, I've been trying to get Stereo Mix for over 2 days. I found all kinds of solutions that didn't help. I even lost my audio drivers once . But, you gave me the perfect link here...It's awesome.

    thanks,
    Harsh.

I use Cowan's JetAudio Plus which has recording from stereo mix as an option, along with microphone, line-in...etc. Cowan also has a freeware version which does the stereo mix recording, but does not have all of the features as the Plus version. Here's the link:

    vista rejected the xp driver

what's up guys? i just started the stereo mix in vista quest tonight on my dell inspiron 1525.

i downloaded the xp driver for my sigmatel sound card and vista f'ing rejected it. it said "this is not the correct driver - now exiting."

i have no evidence to substantiate this, but this has to be a decision by dell in conjunction with the riaa. now i have to figure this out just so they don't win...

    PEACE,
    Tha D

THANK YOU. Seriously. Thank you. I've tried to find the solution to this horrendously annoying problem since I got my laptop earlier this month. This cleared it right up. Just had to remember to go enable stereo mix in the Recording Device options menu and make it the default recording device! Finally my shiny new laptop is complete.
