Sure, it's good I'm surrounded by them when I go to my dad's work, and their iSkin counter parts. I wouldn't recommend it personally, unles you're going to be going around watching videos??That's just stupid, and a waste of $100 more, get a normal ipod, or even ipod nano, it's meant to be listened to not watched while driving, or walking? Who the hell would walk (exercise and watch an ipod, you'd look really stupid)...Get a psp and watch videos.....if ur that desperate...just my two cents...

I agree on the part of getting a normal iPod instead. Spending more money just to watch videos is in my opinion unnecessary.

I have one. I love it. I wish I would have gotten a 60 gig for the extra battery life. Only get about 2 hours of video on the 3gig. Less if you ff a lot or do anything else.

I like the video iPOD. I have used it on roadtrips, airplanes, waiting for trains, commuting, and to store DVDs of shows wherever I go. I have brought the whole season of the office around with me and watched it at at least 4 other houses for the first time with people. I am going to be putting some Family Guy, Seinfeld, Firefly, and Rescue Me onto it soon so that I can show my bro some stuff when I see him next without having to buy or bring all the DVDs.
But yeah, its a music player first and is awesome at that. The only problem I see is that Apple puts out a new iPOD every year or so and the next will likely have Wifi/bluetooth or something that would be awesome. I'm definitely happy though.

I have the iPod Video 60GB, because my grandma loves me alot.
(she was planning on getting me a nano, BUT THIS SEEMED NICE!)
Its awesome to play videos on it, I got a bunch of old-skool nickelodeon cartoons and shows and crammed them all in my PizzlePod. All you need is a converter (I use videora) to convert the videos into iPod readable format, and boom. Instant pr0n on the go.
The only thing that I have to say is that strictly playing videos on the ipod eats up the battery quickly, bringing it from 20 hours (for the 60 gigger, the 30GB is 14 hours methinks) to 2-3 hours. But I do it all on the ipod, I put a lot of music, photos, videos, and use it as a hard disk backup for my computers.

For all you folks that like your iPod Video, check out ***Link Removed***
There is an online conversion tool that returns your uploaded files in about ten minutes.
You have to upload the files you want at this point, but the database is building everyday and should be a great download opportunity in the near future.
Good luck.
Sorry but on their front page is some content that is not allowed @ techIMO . People can PM you for the link if they want it - Phenious TechIMO Moderator

I bought mine about a month ago. All I can say is that I LOVE IT!
The video quality is HDTV quality. But the only thing I dont like is that the videos have to be in .mp4 or .MP4 format. Which means you are going to have to convert all of your videos in order to put them in the iPod. But, a plus is that you dont need to buy seperate software to convert the videos because the newer versions of iTunes has a built in converter by simply right clicking the video once it is in you iTunes library and selecting "Covert for iPod".
Also, the iPod is great on space. I mean i have the 30GB and the whole Chappelle Show seaon 2 on there about 22 movies and 78 music videos and about 5000 songs. So...you get the picture...lol.
Oh, and bettery life is great too. I get about 4 hours of straight video play or 14 hours of all audio play. I would let you know how much when switching on and off from video to audio and audio to video, but a mixed use of the iPod will be almost impossible to tell the mixed battery life span.
Hope this helps you,
Jordan!

Quicktime doesn't know what to do with muxed MPEG's though, which gives you video with no sound.
If you are command line oriented, ffmpeg seems to take care of muxed mpegs.
There is an online tool here that can handle muxed mpegs.
Good luck.

Then get one. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. Because once you get an Ipod chances are you're gonna get the ipod BUG. Last year I got a mini and I wanted so bad to upgrade and I finally did to a 60gb video.

I have had an iPod Nano and now a Creative Zen Vision: M and let me tell you, this Creative is amazing. It plays any type of video, and conversion is easy(only needed for .mov and 1 other i forget). It also has an FM radio, customizable background(theres a beach on mine), and 30gb as well as a backlit button placement, etc. It cost about $25 more, and it's oh so worth it.
it will make all the difference... and you know that.

Yeah, I agree with FH, the Vision :M is a better choice for the money if you are getting the 30 GB version anyway. I had a video iPod and sold it after I saw the Vision at Fryes, I liked the screen better, and the fact that it plays most of my videos wihout needing conversion.

I've had my 30GB video iPod for about 6 months now and love it. I dont have one single video on it tho...the video capability was not its selling point for me. It was because it was the same price as the regular iPod that I was going to buy but with 10 more GB of space.
YAH! I knew you'd be jealous

I have a friend who has one and it's a solid unit for sure, but I have a few complaints:
- Very, I mean very, easily scratched. He keeps it in its little protective pouch all the time and it still gets scratches from just breathing on it wrong I guess.
- Video function is amazing, but drains battery excessively. I'm guessing you might be able to watch a 2 hour movie if you have an absolute full charge.
- Battery life even just using audio isn't too impressive - he charges it multiple times every week.
- click wheel isn't comfortable for me, even after using it a few times. I'm assuming you get used to it after a while. Fortunately, the control is very innovative.

I have had the iPod 30gb since the week it came out and i love it. I highly recommend buying a case, because this one scratches a lot easier than previous generations. Very easy to put your own videos on. Just use Videora iPod Converter or something similar and put it on. Battery life is quite good, as long as you don't scan through songs too often. I highly recommend it. It was the best $300 that i have ever spent.Last edited by super gerbil; March 8th, 2006 at 10:29 PM.
