video encoding and dvd authoring

I did a forms search to find a decent way to rip vob to avi and found decent ansers. Using Auto Gordian Knot is producing flawless avi's and then dvd's.

So now I need to know if I can get some better speed out of this. I have 15 of those mini-dvd's that need ripped and smushed together onto full size double layers. They take about 3 hours a piece from start to finish. I can't afford a new processor in the time frame that this is being done but would more ram help out? I only have 512 megs in this machine. Maybe different software, or am I just screwed?

Your ram is most likely a sufficient buffer. Ripping/Encoding is a processor intensive application. Period.

However not familiar with what you are encoding but my old computer XP1800 (1.53ghz) with a gig of ram was around an hour for an hour of mpeg. It would seem to me that possibly you have quite a few uneeded processes running possibly?
