    how convert .cda to .mp3

I borrowed some music CD's from the library last week, and downloaded them to my pc. Each song has a .cda extension.
How do I convert them to mp3 files? I no longer have the original music CD's.

Thanks for taking time to read this.

    google ".cda convert .mp3"

Download and try out some of the programs... Free trial is all you need if your just using it this one time.

Or you could proly download a music recording program, and record the songs to mp3 format.....

The only way I know how to do that requires you to burn those songs onto a CD, then use Windows Media Player (I assume you are using windows) to rip those as WMA files, and then using one of the thousands of free programs out there to convert WMA to MP3.

Thank you gentlemen for your feedback. I have downloaded 2 freeware programs I found through a google search.
Unfortunately they will only work if I have a CD with .cda files on the cd.

But the .cda files are currently sitting on my hard drive.
I can't believe there isn't a conversion program to take all the files with .cda I have on my hard drive and let me convert them to mp3.

    thanks

Your .cda files are all probably 1kb size and they really contain no relevant information. What you need to do is use some audio-ripping program on the original cd's to rip the wav files that are present.

Try just going to www.download.com and searching for a free demo program that can covert the audio files. You might need to try a couple before you find one that works well, but its probably the easiest solution.

A small, free app called "switch" is easy to use and does the cda to wave/mp3 converting.

Isn't this piracy, therefore against forum rules... unless the cd's aren't copywrited...

AS said in the post above, what you have on your hard drive now amount s to a shortcut, not the audio file. You must start from the original CD. No other way.
