A friend asked if I could build her a PC where she could transfer and manipulate video from her camcorder, and subsequently burn to DVDs. I don't think there would be much in the way of heavy-duty video editing per se.
Aside from a pretty good-sized HDD (400 - 500 GB) and maybe 2GB of memory, what would be the minimum CPU and video card requirements for such a rig? I don't think she wants to put $200 into a CPU, so I was thinking maybe an Intel Allendale dual core in the 1.6 GHz range. I'm starting to see some Conroe cores in the $100 range that look good, but it seems their not "Core 2 Duos" per se. Would this be a good choice? IEEE1394 I guess would be a "must" for video transfer.
Vista Home Premium vs. XP Home or Pro? Any advantage?
Should I rule out any onboard video such as a 6150 series? or Intel G33, but that's a fairly pricey board.
Any and all input is much appreciated. Thanks.
