| Problem recording streaming audio using Audacity
I have a brand new system with Realtek High Definition Audio integrated sound. The drivers are dated from December 2007, so they should be up to date. But when I use Audacity's mixer controls, the sound source is greyed out. When I look at the Realtek controls, it seems that the recorder levels aren't there (see attached graphic).
What do I do to record streaming audio? |

I can record a 60-second clip of streaming audio using MS sound recorder, so I certainly have recording capability. |

I updated the driver from Gigabyte's home page; the file is dated 4/29/2008 -- and it still doesn't work. |

Theo did you try clicking on the tools button at the bottom next to the little speaker? That should give you the option to enable recording. |

Doing that gives me the result shown below; but Audacity's sound source is still greyed out: |

Start | Run | dxdiag
Any issues there?
Are there other options beside HD input?
What does it say for Audio I/O ?
There has to be some setting you haven't enabled. |

No issues. If I run the tests, I hear all.
"There has to be some setting you haven't enabled" is the functional equivalent of "You must be doing something wrong": It may be perfectly true, but it doesn't qualify as help. |

Theo can i ask why you are not using the full version of Audacity? http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
This is how i record. Open your source for your stream. Then open your full version of Audacity and hit the record button. When your done recording click on the file tab and it will give you the option to export the file to the format you desire. |

I'm running version 1.2.6, which is the current stable version rather than the new beta.
My problem is that there isn't any source selectable in the mixer toolbar (see above). I can open a stream and start recording, but all I get is a flat line, because there's no input. |
