| Do the LG Electronics Blu-Ray & HD-DVD-Rom Combo 16x DVDRW or the LG GGW H20 drives upscale normal dvds to high definition?
i am looking to upgrade my pc soon in order to use it in conjunction with a HD tv, and want to use one of the LG drives in order to play HD and Blu-Ray dvds. I just want to know if they also upscale normal dvds before i shell out on one (i don't mind if they don't, i just want to know prior to purchasing).
If the drive itself doesn't do the upscaling, am i right in thinking that PowerDVD 8 should do it instead?
Cheers for any help |

Stand alone Blu-Ray players as well as HD-DVD players upscale standard DVDs. I don't know about PC devices.
Why don't you ask the vendor who wants to sell it to you? Check the LG website.

i would be looking to buy it from somewhere like ebuyer/scan etc. I am just trying to do a little research before parting with my cash, there doesn't seem to be any information on the LG site about upscaling etc, just the drive speeds and that sort of information.
The problem is, i know stand alone players upscale, but i don't know if it is the hardware or the software that does so, or even a combination of the two. If anyone knows then that would be a good step in the right direction. What i don't want to do is buy the drive only to find that i can't upscale which would mean all it was useful for is actual high definition films.
thanks again |

Stand-alone players have extra circuitry that performs upscaling. It wouldn't surprise me if a drive that goes into a PC wouldn't have that circuitry. |
