Mic has stopped working

Ok hi. i play alot of counter strike and stuff so use ventrilo alot. Last night my mic was working fine. this morning i turned my computer on and while it was loading up i unplugged my headset ( mic on the headset) and mic so untwist the wire. I plugeed it back in and loaded up vent and now my mic doesnt work. When i press test and try testing my microphone, i use press the key to enable speech and i talk. the only sound that comes back is the "beep" of when you press your "push-to-talk" button and some quiet fuzzes. I tested another mic on my computer as well and i get the same thing. I think i had this once before ages ago but cant remember how i fixed. Help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

It could be the wire is loose.
Also try replugging it in, that might help.

If it was twisted, could be the wire inside has twisted and broke somewhere. You did mention the beep from vent, are other people hearing it or just you? Could there be a mute on your headset somewhere that was switched? Sometimes I have seen with logitech headsets that happens and it causes alien crosstalking and other people hear stuff back at them instead of your mic when its changed. Other then checking vent or windows settings, headset cables tend to get twisted and go bad.
