5.1 surround headsets only play stereo

I just picked up a pair of Creative fatal1ty gaming headphones and can't get them to play in 5.1 i can get left and right speakers, rear left and rear right, or just center but not all at once. All I can gather about my sound driver is it is a SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC.

Did you install all the drivers and software for the headset?

No drivers came with it all i got in the box was the headset.

Hmm. . . After looking at their site, it should have come with an X-Fi Installation CD.

Stupid question, but do you have it plugged into the correct port?

I have it in the right port and am getting audio out of it. I am looking around online and I cant find that x-fi program, the only one I found stopped installing because it did not recognize any thing installed on my computer by creative.

bsatchmo, did you get Creative Fatal1ty USB Gaming Headset EF0210 - Headphones & Headsets - Dominate the competition with 3D positional audio and the power of Sound Blaster? That should be the one with the x-fi software. Think you can active the surround sound through the x-fi software itself.

question is, do they really provide 5.1 or just a virtualized surround sound from stereo?
