Hey guys,
So I will be installing a new radio on my girlfriend's 2005 Toyota Corolla this week, and had a couple questions.
Now I've installed a couple radios before, but never on cars with alarms (apparently there's something different?)
I did some research and was found that before unhooking the negative terminal from the battery, you had to do something with th car alarm? Or am I being misinformed?...Do we even have to unhook the negative terminal from the car battery, or is it just a security measure?
Thanks guys!

It has been awhile for me so I don't know about the alarm, it might depend on the model, but yes you always unplug the battery. You'd unplug your pc from the wall before installing parts wouldn't you?

I've also just pulled the fuse out of the panel before. Same idea I guess. But there will still be one hot wire, but unless your manually splicing into the wires, it won't hurt anything.
As far as the alarm, I don't see how that would complicate things at all. I'm sure certain high end models it might, but I doubt the standard alarm would be anymore hassles..
In fact, I had a Viper alarm on my probe, and I installed and uninstalled my head unit a lot. Never had problems. (but again, I probably just pulled the fuse) |

Unless you have a super high tech alarm with special settings i would not worry about it. I have done deck installations on my Focus and Explorer with no problems just disconnecting the battery. |

As long as you are using a wiring harness, you will not need to disconnect the battery. |

I don't ever disconnect the battery unless I'm doing an amp. If you're dumb enough to not use a wiring harness and try to splice the wires all at once, you deserve the blown fuse.
But I have never had a problem with vehicle alarms vs car stereos. Some stock stereos require a code be entered before they will work again after being removed is all. As long as the alarm is off when you start installing, you shouldn't have any problems.
Unless the car does some magical stuff from the deck interface, but that's unlikely for a Corolla. |

I have a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer and am wondering if the stock stereo has a Amplifier output on the back for installing a subwoofer. Or do I need to buy a whole new Stereo Deck? Please help |
