Sound card problems with Imedia 1307

Hi,

My Packard Bell 1307 has a built in motherboard sound card, I upgraded this with a new dedicated sound card.

When I bought a new computer I transfered this sound card to the new computer, since then I have been unable to restore to the built in sound card.
Windows xp o/s

So trying to play an mp3 on media player for example.... I get the following error message.....

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.

I am not really very tech savvy so any help would be appreciated.
Thank you for your time

It sounds like the bios is still looking for the add-in S/C.
If you right-click on 'My Computer' on the desktop, and scroll down to 'Properties' and left click on it, that will open a panel that has 7 tabs on it. Left click on 'Hardware' and then 'Device Manager'.... on that panel, scroll down to 'Sound, and Video Game Controllers' and left click on the +
That will open a list in which you should see the add-in S/C, and your onboard S/C. Left click on the add-in S/C, then go up to the top of that panel and left click on 'Action' and then 'Properties'. On the 'General' tab, go to the bottom and click the down arrow on 'Device Usage' ....Select 'Do not use this device'
Click 'OK'... Go back to the 'Device Manager' screen. Then select the onboard S/C, and click 'Action' 'Device Usage' and select 'Use This Device'.

Shut the computer off, wait ten seconds, and re-start. If the onboard S/C still doesn't work, post back, and I'll take you through a bios change...

You may want to print this before you start.... IMHO
