CD Will not play

Hi,
I am on a HP desktop machine running VISTA.

When I put an audio cd into the drive, it plays for about 40 seconds and then gives an error message saying the disk my be dirty. Happens on all cds and in WMP and ITUNES. I have been on the HP site and updated drivers but still not good. can anyone help?

Does HP provide a diagnostic utility to test your drive?

Hi,
It reads data such as pictures and spreadsheets fine.
I have been on the HP site and it checked my drivers and downloaded a new audio driver. This does not help either

Hi, Simon: Did you read my post by any chance?

The same generic drivers are used by all optical drives. So there's nothing to be gained by trying to update the driver.

Yes I did read it and I went to the HP site and the only diagnostic test I can find was something that checked how up to date my drivers were.
