Dumb question on movie editing - Help or Pity would rule

G'day

I have 2 questions probably both dumb so feel free to laugh and point.

Ok Number 1: I wanted to know how to shrink my ripped from Dvd movies that are about 4 gig to the nice small ones about 700mb that you can download everywhere.

I have dvd shrink and I have just discovered that I can change the compression and remove audio and subtitle tracks.

Number 2: After I rip them the vob files are still seperated into a few parts. How do I make them one file.

Ok so to finnish I want big movies that are split up to be one file about 700 mb.

Any help would be awesome!

Hi, Briggs:

Welcome to TechIMO.

Even Shrink is not going to squeeze a full length DVD onto a CD. You have to recode to VCD or SVCD format.

Second, there are good technical reasons for not allowing the VOB files to get much bigger than 1 GB, so don't worry about it. If you recode, the file format will be different, rendering the question moot.

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I'm putting the movies on a hard drive and i didn't want them draining all the space. I dont want to put them on discs again. So does that change the way i have to recode them?

If you want to squeeze a DVD movie down to 700MB, then you're going to need to recode it. But if you'll be watching on a computer monitor, SVCD should be adequate quality.
