Vista 64 / EMU 1616M PCI / FLSTUDIO getting a transient "hiss" noise in recording

i have a EMU 1616m PCI with a HP running Vista 64, 3gb of ram, dual AMD 64. When recording there is a hiss that is almost as loud as the recording it's self. But there's been instances where i've rebooted the computer and the hiss/noise was %100 absent & the recording was perfect. I'm also %100 sure it is not a defect of my AT4040 microphone because i've tried it on another PC belonging to friend running Vista 32bit, he also has 1616m pci and the recording was flawless with my AT4040 microphone. Could this be a issue with E-MU's drivers for Vista 64? the fact that sometimes when i reboot the hiss noise isn't destroying my recording & is completely gone makes me wonder?

Could be a driver issue, or it could be the PCI card needs to be cleaned and re-seated... Also could be a Bad Head unit....
Take the whole thing out and stick it in yer friends PC. That will tell you is it's a hardware or software issue...

For the $$ that unit costs, I would hope it's still under warranty.
