multiple ID3 tags for a single .mp3

Hi All,

Is it possible to attach multiple ID3 tags to a single .mp3? For example, I have an .mp3 of 2 short stories being read. The first story, 00:00 through 05:00, would be tagged as "Story A" by "So and So". The second story, 5:00 through 10:00, would be tagged as "Story B" by "Someone else".

Is this possible? What program would I use (I mainly work on a new imac, but have access to a basic PC)?

Thanks for any advice,

David.

Yes and no.

You could make the id3 v1 different from the id3 v2,

DoubleK,

Thanks for the reply. I'm not too familiar with ID3 tags, but it seems that v1 and v2 are different formats of ID3 data (the former being the older version). Are you implying you could be tricky in this way to get 2 tags, but can't specifically label different segments of the song with different ID3 data tags? For example, it seems from your response that you couldn't really tag 15 different sections within a single .mp3 file.

Thanks,

David.

I am going to attempt to see what happens when you tag a song two different ways later before I make anymore suggestions. Quite positive I did it in the past.

The only issue I could really see would be in what tag your audio device reads and and if the other information (tag) would be available.

Is this for computer usage or home/car/mobile audio?

In hindsight I think we are both over complicating the issue. Simply edit the file name to yield the results. ID3 v2 will give more information able to be read on any computer. ID3 v1 and other legacy tagging protocols offer only very basic information usually artist, song and album but this tended to be most prevalent in yesterdays home and stock auto audio.

I suggest:

(name of short story/orator/time)

I know you can make an id3v2 tag that long but you will have to become very creative for id3v1 due to limited characters available (joliet iso) and why sharpies are so prevalent. With that said in a pc you can have multiple tags in any .mp3 thanks to software being light years ahead of consumer audio hardware.

Hope this did not serve to confuse you more. Try reading it several times as edited it to "easily" convey my experiences.

iMac eh?
