Possible to get audio from Headphones and Speakers on laptop?

On my PC when I plug in any headphones they appear as a sound device and I can choose to make them default, disable them et cetera however on my laptop the instant I plug in Headphones I get audio from them and there is no way I can see to get audio from both.

Reason I am trying to do this is I want to get audio from Ventrilo through Headphones (headset) and Audio for whatever game I am playing coming through the speakers which I have no problems doing on my PC.

I am running Vista and Speakers are Conexant.

What OS? The path for getting to the control panel for the Audio is different in some... At any rate, you should be able to un-check 'Automatic Headphone Detection' to achieve what you want.
