not unless you have some quality speakers.
Creatives Products are a waste of money IMO, its one of the reasons I never use their cards anymore, have converted over to some of the C-Media chips on some of the higher end brands, Auzentech And HT Omega's cards, as well as Asus's Xonar series.

not sure, I've never owned anything beyond several of the older Altec Lansing, and Boston Acoustics 2.1 Speaker sets over the years, been using a 5.1 Home Theater for my speaker set for the past 5 years or so.
all I do know, is for high end sound cards you do need a quality set of speakers, whether its 2.1, 4.1, 5.1, etc etc surround sound, doesn't really matter, but as long as the speakers are quality in sounding, then yeah the card would be fine, but its over priced in my opinion.
there's a lot of Creative X-fi converts being made every day, discovering the superior sound of many of the brands of Sound cards I mentioned above. Auzentech X-Plosion 7.1 Cinema - $142.00 : PC Case Gear, Delivering quality computer parts Australia wide Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium PCIe - $149.00 : PC Case Gear, Delivering quality computer parts Australia wide
This X-fi is probably better, cheaper in price, and a true X-fi card (you can tell easily since it has "X-RAM" on it) Razer AC-1 Gaming Audio Card - $195.00 : PC Case Gear, Delivering quality computer parts Australia wide
and to be honest, this card Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 - $229.00 : PC Case Gear, Delivering quality computer parts Australia wide and its PCI Predecessor the X-fi Prelude, are the only X-fi cards worth buying on the market, as I mentioned in another thread because of the Driver features enabled, and from what I've read, just seem to be more stable in Vista/Win7, especially 64-bit versions. (Auzentech from what I've read unlocks more features in the X-fi Drivers than Creative does, and Auzentech is Licensing use of the chips from Creative, its kind of twisted but nice to see. Auzentech had to actually implement some sort of Verification that users were using their cards and not a Creative card, as people were running the Auzentech drivers on Creative cards, etc, and apparently that was some sort of violation of their Agreement or something, as "technically" Auzentech was producing "hacked" drivers LOL)
looking at the X-540 speakers I would say their decent enough to warrant a sound card, Logitech, and their $100+ in price LOL. I know the others you spoke of are, or better be for the price LOL. |

though buying the x540 system with the sound card comes to $368
and the z 5500 speakers by itself comes to $409
40 dollars in price difference wouldnt it be better to go with the z 5500? |
