VBR actual realtime bitrate display software?

    Hi,
Does anyone know software that will display the actual bitrate of a VBR music file as it is playing in realtime? For example, if I make a 256Kbps VBR AAC music file, I would be curious to see which passages go below that, which passages make it go above 256... It would also be interesting to know the highest and lowest bitrate sections. Ideally it should run on both Vista and XP.

Also, does anyone know the sample length that VBR looks at to determine what bitrate to make that passage? For example, does it look at 5 second passages, 10 second, 1 second...?

Hi herbstech. A solution (if you haven't got one already) may be winamp player. While it plays it displays the current bitrate of the audio file. You just have to configure the input plugins on preferences to display the current bit rate and not the average bit rate. For instance, for the FLAC input plugin uncheck "Show average bit rate" check box. Verify the other input plugins on winamp preferences and uncheck any of the checkboxes that say "Show average bit rate". This way you will have a glimpse at what bit rate the sound is currently playing in winamp.

One glitch though is that I don't think it will analyze all the sound file and give you the statistics the way you said you desired.
