| HDMI from PC. Video but no Audio
Can anybody help me with this?
I recently bought a i7 920 2.67Ghz wt 3 GB of ram, 64 bit operating system wt win Vista Ultimate.
It's a sweet computer but when I connect my HDMI out to the Panasonic Vierra TV, I only get video.
I know the 2 HDMI channels work on the tv. Used DVD , Blueray and all types of receivers on them.
I was hoping to get help for my PC issue so that I can get Audio
Thank you |

Did you hook up the jumper from the video card to the sound card/mobo?
There should be a small 2 pin connector on the video card, there is a jumper from there to the sound card or mobo depending on where your sound comes from. This is called an SPDIF connection.
Please list some specs. from your computer and TV. Mobo, gpu, sound card, at the very least. This will help us to help you.
Also are you using a pure HDMI cable or a DVI to HDMI adapter?
Here are some threads that may help. PC: DVI to HDMI Sound Problem! PC to TV HDMI No Audio

One more thing!
Have you ever had or hear of this kind of problems with HDMI other than physical?
In other words, can this be software.
I know that since this computer's been built, I 've had some issue with sound. |

Your video card may not output SPDIF too. Just a possibility that it will only output video. I have a dvd player that outputs HDMI separate from sound. Why it was built like that I don't know. Anyway, just a thought.

I appreciate the time you are spending with me.
I'm not what you call an experienced computer guy; for instance, what does mobo mean?
What kind of specs do you need? To help
Thank you |

We need specs before people just randomly offer advice that will most likely just waste time.
What specific video card are you using?
What "issues" with sound did you have?
unless the correct driver is installed you WILL have issues with HDMI sound output, that is iff your card supports Audio out natively...
Most nvidia cards dont, most ATI cards do... |

Thank you | mobo = motherboard, so we can post a pic of where the connection is ( if there is one )
gpu = graphics card, again a pic if there is one, and can reccomend drivers
The make and model would help. example gpu: EVGA (brand) gtx-275 (model) anything else like OC/FTW/ect....
The more info. we have the more detailed the help. If you don't know, you can always take pictures of it and we may be able to figure it out. |

You may have to make a setting in the BIOS, in the Control Panel, and on the TV.

After update, I lose my sound and find a red x over my sound icon. Then I get the error message "no audio output device is installed". Fortunately, I found the solution at http://www.noaudiooutput.com |
