    Video Editing

I want to improve the quality of my gaming videos and movies and such so I'm asking here for lack of a better forum or section.

I need to know what software to use because at the moment I'm using windows movie maker and google is proving to be useless.

I'd also like to know if I should be using Fraps for recording my gaming on PC.

    Help if you can

    First off, Welcome to TechIMO.

Your question is kind of broad to be honest. Fraps can be used for certain games, but there are better ways depending on the game to be honest. What game(s) are you trying to make into movies?

As far as software goes, I'm no expert by anymeans. BUT, I know of a few programs that will definetly improve the overall quality of the movies. Sony Vegas is pretty popular, Adobe after effects and Virtual Dub are others that come to mind.
They are all pretty expensive though, so be prepared for that. But when it's done, it's amazing if done right. Like this video for example.
Meatshot Vol. 2 • PldX - HD Gaming Movies
(actually that whole site is amazing IMO)

Well I'd prefer a program that can be used for any game as I'm not recording for specific games.

I've read about Sony Vegas through googling and apparently it is pretty badly received. I'm really just looking for something that can produce high definition videos for youtube and something that I can use to edit the video or add fancy stuff.

EDIT: I took a look at that link and that's how I'd like my videos to be

EDIT EDIT: Also, Price isn't a problem for me.

Vegas is badly received? Compared to what?

Vegas is a pretty top notch Non-Linear/Non-Destructive video editing suite that I have personally used pretty extensively myself. Comparing it to ulead/pinnacle? No comparison. If you prefer cookie cutter funniest home video circa 1989 look go with Pinnacle.

What I like about Vegas is that they have an upgrade path if you should ever find yourself needing pro studio support without the need of learning a whole new software suite.

Does it have a learning curve? You betcha. Just like PhotoShop.

Newegg.com - SONY Vegas Movie Studio 9 - Digital Media Editing

Newegg.com - SONY Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 - Digital Media Editing

Newegg.com - SONY Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 Pro Pack - Digital Media Editing

Newegg.com - SONY Media Software Vegas Pro 9 - Digital Media Editing

When all is said and done you can have close to a grand wrapped up into a video/post production software suite that has been embraced more widely than other suites available to the prosumer combined. Unless you are getting into batch operations the consumer orientated software is VERY reasonable and will yield the same results. Last I called, support was right here in the good old USA 45 minutes north of me in Madison, WI. We speak pretty fluent english around these parts. Good luck and welcome to Techimo.

Vegas is the best HD video software I have ever used. Nothing even comes close.

Capturing from games is one thing; there is FRAPS for that among other options. But for rendering HD and editing clips, Vegas is the best I've ever used.
