Toshiba L15-S104 Audio Driver HELP!
Hello. I have been having this problem for some time now. My older Toshiba Laptop, a Toshiba Satellite L15-S104, running WinXp Home. I just kept my automatic updates on all of this things life. After installing automatic updates and it asked for a restart. I allowed it to do so and now The Contexant Ac-Link Audio driver is now corrupted. I have downloaded the Ac-Link audio driver and various Realtek drivers that were supposed to also work. When I begin to install these drivers I get the result. The file ksuser.dll. So, I searched for this file and download it, and specify where the file is. After this I get the a pop-up that says"Cannot Load The Contexant Ac-Link Audio Driver. The driver file may be missing, try reinstalling the driver again to fix this problem..
I'm now hopeless. Im only 14, and not that much of a computer-literate. Any suggestions?

Hi zackmccormic. Welcome to TechIMO.
Try uninstalling the driver then reinstall it.
To uninstall go to start>settings>control panel. Once in control panel click on System>Hardware>Device Manager. In Device Manager go to Sounds,Video, and Game Controllers. Right click on Ac-Link audio driver and click on uninstall.

Hi Zack... The ksuser.dill file must be placed in the C:\Windows\System 32 folder first. Read this: Missing ksuser.dll After doing that, download the AC-Link file from here: Conexant AC-Link Audio 6.13.10.8335 software download - Windows - VersionTracker
Make sure that if you get a message about an 'Unsigned Driver' you click intall anyway...
Hope this helps...

No go either. I have ksuser.dll on my computer already. When the installer runs it checks for it in the folder c:\audio.temp\i386. I also discovered that ksuser.dll was already present in system 32. I'm thoroughly confused. is the driver wrong? I'm going to check your download link.

No go. The driver install at the very end fails. There is usually the alert talking about the driver not be testing for xp.. This time it doesn't ask for ksuser.dll, and at the end it simply fails. I gave tried to install it twice now, followed by an uninstall and no go. Could some of the xp files essential for the installation no longer be working? If taht is the case then we have a problem. when this laptop was purchased. I believe, five years ago? I didnt come with an xp Cd, that or the cd has been lost. So I cant boot from the cd and run the repair utility if that is what's needed.

Well Zack.. I can only think of one or two things that may work... First, D/L and run the reg cleaner in this after un-installing all driver files, and the existing ksuser.dll in sys 32: CCleaner - Download...
Re-boot, and try the install of the ks.dill first, then the AC-Link .dll... Post back.

Before I do this. I have a list of things under my audio in device manager.
I Have
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Driver
Legacy Video Capture Device
Media Control Device
Multimedia Audio Controller. Since the install of the driver link you suggested it has the yellow for a non-functioning driver.
And Video Codecs.
The contexant ac-link isnt present. Though when I research it' the default driver for this laptop. Though the install wont work. Which do you want uninstalled?

Is there such thing as a universal audio driver?
I have been having problems installing an autodriver for my laptop and wondered. Maybe is there a universal. Im willing to give up some sound quality to get it working again. Or if you think you can get the computers orignal driver to work.

No universal, but what you may mean is the chip manufacturers original chip drivers.
A lot of sound card or motherboard manufacturers buy the sound chip from another manufacturer.
That chip may have drivers from the original manufacturer, but it has been my experience that they rarely work, because the last manufacturer tailors it to their sound card or on-board.
Edit:
Although rarely, and not in a while it has worked for me before.
With a desktop it meant reading the info of the chip itself.Last edited by stroyal; November 1st, 2009 at 10:17 PM.

Worth trying? How would I determine what chip my laptop has. It's on-board. Same motherboard as the model comes with

Im very confused. Does anyone simply have a theory why the driver for this computer wont install in the first place?

Where did you get the drivers you are trying to install, and are you sure they area actually the correct driver? Because it sounds to me like you are trying to use the wrong one. Toshiba has the drivers on their site Model Content Page - Satellite L15-S104

If you have the right drivers, like Rich suggested, they will install.
I have never seen the correct drivers not install eventually. Only reference drivers, have completely failed me.
The last time I had a problem with sound drivers was a couple of weeks ago with 1 dell out of 12.
Sound drivers can be a pain if the installation fails.
By uninstalling and removing everything I could in device manager, and reinstalling the drivers several times it finally worked.
Sometimes removing the card and rebooting, then installing it again. ( turn it off in the BIOS for on board)
The bottom line though is that of maybe 200 sound drivers that I have installed, the correct factory drivers have never failed me.
The maybe 2 dozen problem installations always turned out to be a failed installation that was eventually fixed by repeated uninstalls and reinstalls.
Most sound drivers have their own install program, but require a restart, at which point windows seems to take over. This is when the problem happens.
If windows does pick it up, several sound devices all get installed automatically.
I'm not sure why, but from experience, if you try it over and over after uninstalling as much as possible, it will work eventually.
Check Add and Remove programs also.Last edited by stroyal; November 2nd, 2009 at 09:26 AM.

Yes, I have the correct driver. I used toshiba's site. I cant exactly mess the sound up more. So I'll remove all the sound related drivers. As for removing the card. This is a laptop that uses on-board sound. I cant do that? Unless that was just for future reference
