Rant: Thanks for Nothing SUPER(C)
Previous versions of SUPER(C) were rock solid. I could throw any video at it and it would convert to any other format will full support for normal video settings to optimize the output. Less than 10% of the time I would get an error, but the reason why was easy to figure.
I used to be a very happy camper.
This latest build v2010.build.37 (Jan 2,2010) is...well...
Completely
And Utterly
Useless
90% of my conversions completely fail. No explanation why. Just simple stuff like going from WMV to FLV, or SWF to AVI, or MPG to MOV. Anything. You name it. Sorry.
No place to report bugs or even pay for tech support.
And MOST IMPORTANTLY, no way to download and install the previous happy happy versions.
Guess I got what I paid for. Which is nothing.

Welcome to TechIMO!

Super is essentially a GUI. The backend processes integrate coding from multiple projects, including many open source efforts. All it takes is a minor bug in one of those projects to cause a cascade of faults in Super.
That said, one would expect numerous complaints from other users if the latest release had such serious problems. First determine if the problem is specific to your local install or if the problem is a general release issue. Remove all traces of Super from your system, including associated files and directories, then re-install.Robert Richmond | Infinite perceptions. One reality.

Thanks RobRich. Followed those suggestions. Good steps, but in my case unfort. none of it worked.
Ok, let's say the problem is me and only me. No one else is complaining, fine. My RANT still stands that there is no way to rollback to a previous version, and no one to contact (to even pay) for Tech Support.
I know, I know that Super C is free. I'm off now to find commercial software to do what Super C used to (video file conversions, wide variety of formats and property settings).
I'm prepared to pay up to $300. Anyone with any suggestions?

It is your money, but what is the point of replacing Super with commericial software? Again, it is basically just a GUI for various open source projects. For example, many of the features actually utilize MEncoder.

There are additional free or open source GUI frontends for video transcoding incorporating MEncoder and other projects, such as MediaCoder.

Simple. I have real work to do. I need something that works, free or otherwise.
>Again, it is basically just a GUI for various open source projects.
Yes, I get it. A tad irrelevant here. Earlier versions of SUPER worked. Same machine. Not one hour before upgrading. Regardless of what's under the hood of the GUI. Different machines, wiped machines, XP, Vista, Win7. I stopped trying. For over a year I was quite happy with SUPER. Now it's just a waste of HD space.
>There are additional free or open source GUI frontends...MediaCoder.
Very cool. I do appreciate that.
And despite my crappy attitude, I really do appreciate your suggestions and quick replies.

What I was getting at was it might be time to undertake learning how to use some of the command line software that drives Super, MediaCoder, etc.

Learning even just the basics of Avisynth, FFmpeg, MEncoder, etc. can produce impressive and highly customizable results when dealing with video processing and encoding.

With FileHippo, and some brute force work to get the new SUPER completely wiped, I successfully rolled back to Build 33. I tested a few of the video files that had failed to convert before; they now convert again.
Whew... big relief.
At least I can get some work done now, while on a separate thread I take on the tasks of learning some of the under-the-hood stuff as RobRich suggests.
Thanks all. I hope searching, finding this thread helps someone else someday.Last edited by jbarry1234; February 3rd, 2010 at 09:25 PM.

Filehippo is a great place to find previous versions of common freeware...
Other than Ninite, it is really the only place I go for software...
In the future use Revo Uninstaller (free) to truly uninstall and clean up software...Last edited by JPMiller; February 3rd, 2010 at 10:57 PM.

Epilogue: GOOD NEWS
I just upgraded to SUPER C v2010.build.38. It works!!
I no longer need to use build 33.
All of my problems I reported above with build 37 are gone.
Everything works now, everything converts now.
And again, I do understand that SUPER is just a GUI. But at the same time, something they did at build 38 makes it work now. 33 works fine, 37 fails 90% of the time, and now 38 works fine like 33 did. Same machine, same OS, same exact video files.
I'm posting this in case someone else runs into similar problems with build 37.
