    Which Drive is better?

This may sound a little crazy, and I think I know the answer, but I would like someone to confirm it. I'm not very computer savvy, so keep tech talk in laymans terms. I had a computer replaced because of a bad hard drive. I got back a better machine with a newer motherboard and faster processor. (The tech also returned my old computer to me.) It came with a CD Rom-Drive which looks like it came with the computer, instead of putting my old one in. Here's my question...which Drive is the better of the two?

The new one is ATAPI-CD ROM-DRIVE-56 MAX (Says BENQ on the front)

The previous one (which I purchased a few years ago) is a

    SONY DVD RW DRU-700A

It seems to me, my older one has more going for it, more bells and whistles, etc. That's why I bought it...so I could do more.

And would you recommend removing the current one and replacing it with the Sony? If you need more info, please advise.

    Thanks so much,

    Kathyp82

Top one Can only read CD disks, The later can read/write CD's and DVD's.... I think your right on the no-brainer.

I would ditch the CD-ROM drive completely and have just the DVD drive....

(Its difficult to see how this 'new' computer has 'faster' parts yet it came with a CD-ROM drive)...

    Hi KATHYP82. Welcome to TechIMO.

The Sony drive is a DVD rewriteable drive while the BenQ is a CD drive ( I can't tell if it is writeable without a model number but from what you posted it looks to be read only). The BenQ cannot read DVDs. If you want to be able to read and write to DVD replace the BenQ with the Sony. The Sony can write to and read CDs also.

Thanks so much. I guess maybe the tech who got me the newer computer just didn't want to take the stuff apart, exchange drives and install, etc. But I can do it. I thank you for the confirmation, I just don't know why I didn't realize about the drive sooner. (Probably too busy enjoying the use of a computer after a year without.lol)

    Thanks again

    Kathy
