    Audio into Audacity

    Hi,
Im trying to get a 9 minute bit of audio from an audio cassette
    into my computor.

Ive got cable from earphones plug in music centre into the
line in socket on comp ( top left blue socket at back of comp )

Ive done it before and got good results but now all I get is
a thin blue line in audacity no sign of any music.

I think I ve got to have the music in my comp speakers to get any chance and theres not a peep.
When I tweak the plugs and get a bit of feedback then a few lines appear in audacity but the big music signal just is nt making an appearance !

Thanks for any comment or advice

    Im on XP

Are you sure you have the line plugged into the line-in port? If you don't hear anything in your speakers, I think you've got the wrong port, or that it's disabled.

there are 6 sockets at the back of the comp
    3 in a line
    3 in a line below

the line in is the blue one top left
yes, Im in the right socket, Ive got the signal into audacity before
    often after tweaking the wires.

Im getting tired of this problem though theres got to be an easier way of getting audio into the comp
Im thinking now of a cd recorder, maybe a deck I could link in to my music centre.
I could then record music or any audio onto a cd rw disc and then put the disc into my comp... then whizz the audio files into documents.

Just had a thought, wonder if my panasonic dvd recorder will record sound from my music centre ?

You probably don't have "line in" selected or turned up in the record mixer. Double click the speaker icon, then options, then recording, then OK. Select "line in" and bring up the volume.
