Sound driver issue
Hey all,
I have Windows 7 installed on my Lenovo Y410. It has a Realtek High Definition Audio "card" installed. So, since Windows Vista's sound worked perfectly, I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 (installed alongside Windows Vista and Fedora 15; Vista has a program which I lost the license key for).
After the upgrade, the sound no longer works. I have tried the driver that was included in Windows and on Lenovo's website. I also tried the generic Realtek one, but that had many compatibility screens come, which I found suspicious and am wondering if that is normal?
Does anyone have a suggestion? If so, thanks.

Hi #43 Fan,
What do you see in device manager? Unknown device, driver not installed, or what? Tried deleting the device and rebooting?
One trick that works well with Win 7 is when you're prompted for the location of the driver, click the Windows Update button. Then it will go out to the MS site and can locate drivers for legacy devices.

The driver is installed just fine; it detects as High Definition Audio device. No sound is coming from the speakers, even though the audio is turned up. I have tried different ports to no avail. External speakers connected through the headphone jack also produced no sound.
Any ideas?

I would guess there is some other program controlling the audio output, or the default output device is set incorrectly. I had a similar problem on my Dell and it turned out to be an add-on program for advanced sound options.

I tried a different default sound output and no luck. Also, to my knowledge there is no add-on controlling the sound.

Additionally, after the computer went into standby the sound now works but sounds rather muted and dull.
Definite driver issue somewhere.

Are you certain the speakers are good?

The speakers are good.
After sleep, apparently I have to switch the default output from the one high definition audio device to the other, which makes the speakers sound clear again.
I am just wondering why the computer needs to go to sleep then be woken up to engage the speakers.
