    1080p Films stuttering

If i play any film over the size of 8Gb the video stutters and pauses like it's not able to load it fast enough because of the high quality. Is it a memory or HD issue or just the player?

Would have thought even a bog standard hard drive would be able to keep up with a 1080p film.

Using the latest VLC media player.

This is on my Media PC not my main rig which has 2Gb of memory and the hard drive the films are on is a 2 Terra byte Samsung Spinpoint 5400RPM , please don't tell me that's it.

    Thanks in advance.

Might be an idea to give full system specs... Playing blu-rays for me taxes a good portion of the CPU/GPU..

Have you tried using a different player?

    ASROCK micro-atx mainboard
    S939 x64 4200 AMD CPU
    2Gb OCZ Gold Memory

Sorry for vague names, old kit that was my previous computer, can't remember exactly.

Task Manager shows between 56 and 70% CPU usage while playing.

Playing an .mkv not a BD, i have a separate Panasonic Blue-Ray player but no BD discs or burner.

Is that hard drive running in ATA emulation mode?

Problem solved sort of. Despite only doing it on files larger than 8Gb and 3 different files in 2 different players it was a coincidence, the files must have been corrupted during download. Just played a 15Gb file smooth as.

    Thanks for the assistance
