I use Keepvid It runs through a website, so you'll only need to bookmark the page. Just find your YT video, copy the link into KeepVid's site, and it will give you a list of versions available. The files can be played using Windows Media Player or Quicktime (or 3rd party media app of your choice).
    Good job, friend-of-friends!

Nice find Tony, Bookmarked that, should be almost handier than the FF plugins, seeing as the latest version of FF 5.0 made many plugins in previous version null and void, at least until their updated finally.

this bypasses that annoyance by not needing a specific compatible plugin to do the same.

Gonna give it a try on some vids and see how it works.

Yep, works perfectly, just used the YT video I posted in the Favorite YT, Google etc Thread, downloaded as a 1080p video as well, tested it, looks good on my end.

Finally SOMETHING that actually works for downloading and converting YT videos.

The freeware below is the best YouTube downloader so far. It can download charts, channels, playlists, shows, favorites and lot of other things.

The link Tony provided also can do audio, saves the streams as a MP3 only if so desired.

Tried the MP3 conversion/download on KeepVid, and seems the Audio conversion is pretty horribly low.

Several clearly 128k or 320k Bit rate videos as far as audio goes, and they downloaded at 8k and 54k Audio.

So might want to try something else for MP3/Audio clips instead of KeepVid for the time being, unless they upgrade the Conversion so its better audio.

Are you Sure you clicked the right download button?

You might of clicked the Wrong Download Button. Its not the BIG Green DOWNLOAD button, that is for the advertisement ad thats on the page.

You put the URL of the Video in the box for the URL Address, and then click the Download Button NEXT to the Box (small gray and black text says Download)
