What is the fastest DVD burner out there?

What is the fastest DVD burner out there? And how fast can it burn an ISO of a 2 hour movie to DVD?

24x is pretty much the standard for the fastest write speeds offered you typically don't get that but that would be the fastest theoretic speed. I think it generally takes a few mins to actually burn just the straight data but that depends on how many GBs you are talking about.

What takes forever is the actual encoding/decoding if it hasn't been done already. Just burning the straight iso doesn't take long at all.

Yeah, those write speeds are pretty misleading considering that the "burning" isn't what takes up the most time during the process. Plus buffer size, etc, all play a role in the overall "speed" of the burn (the process of burning large files that is, from start to finish). Also as Richeem said the speed of the burner isn't ever fully met.

The only thing I can add is that you'll want to inquire as to whether or not the drive has good buffer overrun protection. Users typically compensate for this by selecting slower write speeds with whatever program they are using if they experience errors on optimal settings. But you can do the homework before hand and at least select a device with a good track record.

This technology allows the laser to temporary slow down or halt entirely while the memory buffer is filled back up with information and then writes it.

Lastly I recommend getting a good name in burners. I'll tell you why: sometimes people go for the best deal possible (especially with BD-Rs/BD-RE for some reason). This isn't the way to go and those drives will die a horrible death (depending on the drive). Optical disc readers and writers are very delicate devices so I recommend doing your homework.
