Question Converting .RAR into something for a DVD-R

    Hello all,
First post here, so I'll say this: I'm not hip on the tech lingo, but can understand instructions, just not all the acronyms for everything.

    Here's my problemo:
A friend of mine has a workout DVD set that she ripped to her computer.. her kids destroyed the physical DVD's and is left with the videos she has on her PC. She compressed the videos one by one and sent them to me using DropBox, so that I can put them on physical disks for her to use again. I opened the file, and the videos are all in .RAR format. Over the past two days I have downloaded 6 or 7 different programs claiming to convert my files into something I can use to burn the videos onto a DVD-R disc. I've now wasted an entire pack of DVD-R's and no luck getting them to play on the DVD player. I've even tried putting the video's on my SD card and putting the card into my Wii, but the Wii doesnt recognize any videos on my card, just the pictures of my kids that are already on there. I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of, even downloaded a program that 'finalizes' the DVD, and it still doesn't work. Lastly I called my computer genius 15 year old cousin but he lives 2,000 miles away, so not much help lol.

I'd really appreciate any ideas or explanations, miracles are welcome, too!

Remember, I'm not hip on the tech talk so English, please

The rar file is really like a container that holds the video files. You generally need to extract the files from the container using WinRAR or another similar program.

Sounds like a bit of malarkey to me. If "your friend" new how to rip and compress the files she'd most likely also know how to decompress and re-burn them. Sounds more like a case of you torrenting a file and now not knowing how to use what you downloaded.

lol.. What's malarkey is accusing me of committing a felony and posting it on the internet for help.

It's not porn, its the P90X workout DVD's she's having me burn.

Yes she would know how to do it, but she's out of town for a few days and I volunteered to do it for her because she wont have her computer. Just turned out to be a bit harder than burning a CD.

I extracted the files from the RAR, and they're MP4s.. I used converterlite to convert them to AVI, but when I try to burn them it says that the file has been damaged or corrupted, so I'm at a dead end here. If one of your can help that'd be great, but I don't like getting emails at 2:30am saying someone answered my question with an accusation of trying to torrent porn.

Although your intentions are perfectly good, you must realize that many others' have not been...

    Welcome to the forum!

What app are you getting the error from... and have you tried a different format such as WMV?
