Mic Playback
Whenever I voice chat with two specific friends, I can hear everything that I say loop back to me. They are using headsets, so it's not feedback (plus it doesn't loop/echo at all). I just hear everything I say a second after I say it. I only have the problem with two friends, though. None of the other people I voice chat with cause problems.
I'm not even sure where to start trying to solve the problem. Any suggestions?

Usually I use the Steam voice program. But it also happens with Google Talk.

Under your mic settings, do you have the box ticked to listen to this device?

I would start by looking at your mic options in the computer. Doable click the speaker icon and check the recording options.

Thanks for the responses!
Where would I find either of those options? I'm using XP, and I don't see anything that looks like what you guys are talking about in my Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices dialog.

In the task bar look for the speaker icon and double click it.

Ah. I found it. But that box wasn't checked. I was pretty sure that that wasn't the problem anyway, though, since it only happens when I talk to certain people.

Nope. One of them has Comcast like me. I'm not sure what the other has, but I'm pretty sure that it's not satellite.
For the moment we have actually solved the problem by enabling "acoustic echo reduction". I'd prefer to find a different solution, since this seems to mess with their voices a bit. But at least the irritation factor is gone.
