Cassette Audio Tapes?
How/What do I need to take a cassette audio tape, and concvert the music to my hdd, to mp3's? I have on board sound right now.
AC'97, on a MSI KT3 Ultra MoBo. Or do I need a PCI Sound Card?
I have access to a SoundBlaster card @ work. Any suggestions would be kool.
Thanks

You need a Y converter to go from the cassette deck / left & right composite (rca) out to a stereo mini (1/8 inch jack) to the input of your comp.

I use roxio cd creator for burnin. I don't have any external devices plugged into any of my computers so I can only suggest that you look into what ever burnin program you are using and see if has the option to "import" from a eternal source. Also make sure that you go into your "volume control" settings to make sure that the box under "input" (muting) is not checked.

There are various program, one of my favorite is sonic foundry sound forge 6.0, it's a program for seriousaudio editing, though it's a bit pricey.
I also use wavelab, try steinberg, they make good various programs. If money is an issue especially if your only going to use it for converting only a few older tapes.
Maybe you can try tucows for a demo and see if it works for you.* ¨ )

August 20th, 2002, 03:54 PM #7Well when I was recording from cassette tapes I used Roxio EZ CD Creator 4 deluxe. It had an option to record from LPs and Cassette tapes. I have EZ CD Creator 5 now, but I didn't check if it could still do the same. I am pretty sure it is capable. I'll check on that later.Originally posted by Jeordiewhite

So all you need is what woodbutcher said, point and click and wait and you got a wave file or mp3 file. Sound will be as good as the condition of the cassette tape being recorded.

I use Goldwave it's free to try and use. If you use it to much a message comes up to let you now, but all you have to do is close it and restart , save first. I would give it a try, read the docs. It has a lot of good stuff. If you do records it will take out the pops and clicks, etc.
Oh yea, make sure that "y" thing is stereo , the rca ends will be a red and white one, not all black.Last edited by jdbic; August 20th, 2002 at 07:57 PM.
