Are RCA connectors the same? (i.e. red = white = yellow)

I need to use a yellow RCA video cord; instead of buying another one can I use one of the many extra red/white RCA cords I have? Is the wiring the same inside? If I hook up red to red for video instead of yellow to yellow, will it work?

my guess is yes.
i've used them backwards before just out of lazyness. as long as you put the same end to the same plug you should be ok.

Most likely it will, but, in theory, the yellow ones have internal cabling that should be better at passing the high frequencies involved in video, where the red and whites are meant to deal with audio.

In practice, you can often get away with using the red or white because for inexpensive cables, it's really too much trouble to put two different kinds of wire in there, so the same grade of wire is used in all 3 conductors.

Give it a try. Worst case, you have to get another cable. No biggie.

The last time my sister moved, somebody dropped a piece of furniture on the AV cable from her VCR that was lying on the floor. It was severed most of the way through, so naturally, she wanted to throw it away and just as naturally, I took it.

I've since spliced other stuff into it, so I'm going by memory, but the internal construction of all 3 wires looked the same to me. *Could* be different grade of conductive wire, but I kinda doubt it.

I agree with what has been said, basically they are all the same. Sometimes the video cable will be slightly higher grade (& better shielding), but at the end of the day they do the same job.
