Hello,
why do my avi files play easier than smaller mpg counterparts? |

Please can you provide us with a bit more information such as your PC spec, operating system, what you are using to play your mpg's and avi's etc |

sorry... here's the facts...
my system is an Athlon 1800+ 256mg RAM 16mg ATI All in Wonder video card...Windows XP Pro...
I'm trying to watch my own dv files... I capture them as .avi files and then am trying to produce them as mpg's, which all works fine but the avi's play nice and smooth and the mpg's are choppy and slow...
I'm using video wave 4 to capture and produce and windows media player to view. Any idea why?... I know I need a better video card, but have tried it with a 64mg Nvidia card and had the same results... |

... forgot to add that I'm capturing through firewire with maybe 1 frame dropped per 15,000... so that's not the problem. I was wondering if maybe there was a better media player to view mpg's with? |

What are you using to view the mpg's with?
I'd advise you try using Windows Media Player 6.4, assuming you are on a Windows platform.
Yes you already have WMP6.4. Look in your "Program Files" folder, then in the "Windows Media Player" folder, and run the file named "mplayer2.exe".
Try using that to view your mpg's.
When viewing them, for best performance keep the viewing area at one of these 3 zoom settings; 100%, 200%, or Full Screen. If you manually stretch the window then it'll be at an odd zoom size and that causes more strain on the system.
WMP6.4 is extremely light on the system. If your clips are still choppy then I'd suspect the problem lies with the codec that's decoding the mpgs. |
