| Klipsch 5.1s Stay away from them!
Well where do you start. Klipsch has always had a good name. I have my entire entertainment system in my living room full of Klipsch speakers with a velodyne sub.
But this just SUCKS. Where are these Promedia 5.1s made? They crap out right away! My original, which I bought from NewEgg lasted 7-8 months.....Then I called Klipsch, they sent me a New one So they say, but the sub had a dent on the corner that had a black type of putty on it to try to cover it up...sent it back...the next set comes, it has dented speaker screens on the sub. NO, Fedex didnt do it...not the way the sub is packaged with the speakers. Sent those back...I was told they weren't refurbs too.
Then finally I get one that is fine. Looks great and all... And it dies after a half day of use!!!!!!! (maybe 3 hours actually)
Now Im on the 3rd one. So far 2 days and no problem..But what happens when the 1 year warrantee goes out and it dies??? Alot of Money down the drain is what happens!
I thought this was a bad transistor problem, thats what Klipsch told me when I called tech support about my first sub going out after 8 months. My original one had a Maufacturer date on it of Nov. 2001....... They said they had the bad ones weeded out and have better transistors now...Well that's not the case or there is something else wrong with them!
The second one that died on me after 1/2 day was Manufactured November 2002 Had a letter of L for November. Klipsch skips the letter I....So they start with A for January etc etc...So yeah anyway can you believe this! I can't. I talked to everyone to see if it could be my soundcard or Battery back up surge protector or wires...Creative said no way would the soundcard do this.
APC said the samething for the Backup.
So the problem falls back on Klipsch.
I have seen alot of posts on the Klipsch web site and I am a guy who thinks that only people with problems will post and to take every post with a grain of salt...But now Im the guy that also is posting with problems!!!!!!!!! And have gone thru 2 subs and am on the 3rd. And I know what Im doing. I just happen to be in the broadcasting biz and have ample experience with sound and electronics.... And NO I didnt womp these things out at a volume of 80. Even tho Klipsch tech support (Amy) said that wouldnt do any damage.
Heres what I think should happen.
1. Find out what the problem really is and be open and honest with the customers!!!
2. Have a Recall of the product, as it obviously has more than just a transistor problem involved.
3. Either refund our money, give us credit or Replace our 5.1s with one's that don't have this problem.
What I'm worried about is how long this 3rd set of 5.1s will last? And if Klipsch will extend the warrantee because of these ISSUES! $400 is alot of money for a family on a budget. And there are alot of people out there who just wont spend $400 on a set of computer speakers very easily. I wish I would have bought the Creative speakers instead. Hmmmmm Anything but these. When they work they sound great.
The people at Klipsch are nice but this stuff is just JUNK.
You know...I even had a set sent to me that had the Klipsch label on the center speaker put on UPSIDE down! I swear!! Who is making these?? People who can't read? People who don't care about the quality of material and workmanship?
Where is Klipsch's quality control?
Way to may questions.
I would have blamed New Egg or any retailer that I bought these from first......Saying, maybe I got someone elses USED crap sent to me etc. etc.
But these that were sent to me (except for my first set that lasted 8 months) all came from Klipsch...right out of there Warehouse in Fullerton California, which klipsch tells me is the warehouse that all their new merchandise comes from.
I'm sorry I feel this way. It's not my fault. The Blame Lies at the door of the manufacturer.
Just Please heed my warning. I too took posts like this with a grain of salt, now it just happens I am the one posting.
Some may work some may not. But the ones that fail (way to many of them) tells the average JOE there is a problem in Hope Arkansa.
Thank you
Lart

Maybe its just you? I have a set myself, as well a set I recommended to a friend. Both are almost a year old and still going strong. No problems at all.
There are lemons..... maybe you got some bad luck with them.

hmmm, you seem to have had a really bad experience so far.
i don't have the 4.1s...bought instead the 2.1s, and they've been troublefree for me. |

I have a pair of Klipsch 5.1's I've had for 2 yrs and haven't had a problem with them at all. I have a pair of 4.1's that the powersupply went out after a year and a half but Klipsch replaced free, so I have no problem with Klipsch at all. |

Hey Goldenbuddha...
No its not just ME, that is a stupid comment to make. There has been hundreds of people with this same problem. Maybe your one of the lucky ones. I hope you are. But if your not. You better hope these Promedia 5.1s don't crap out on you after a year. Or you will become one of the statistics. LOL $400 is alot to spend for so short of a life span.
I wouldn't be saying any of this if it wasn't for the fact that I have been thru 2 bad ones already. |

I think it's just you too.
I've owned the 2.1s for a couple years now. Greatest speakers I've ever owned. They've been turned on (powered up) 24/7 for over two years. No problems at all.
You SAY there have been hundreds of people with the same problem. Well with millions of units sold, that's a pretty damn good ratio.
The fact that Klipsch has been willing to replace your speakers multiple times goes a lot towards saying what a decent company they are. |

We're all familiar with the Klipsch forums.
I did my homework before purchasing the 2.1s. Maybe you should have did yours?
All the complaints in the forums don't amount to much. 10, 20, 50, people having problems out of millions of units sold. I still say that's a damn good ratio. Probably better than most any other speaker company. So your odds of getting good speakers are actually better with Klipsch.
I say, BUYER BEWARE OF THE WHINERS. |

The 2.1s are the same speakers as the 4.1s and 5.1s, with the exception of the subwoofers and surround processors. |
