| Turtle Beach Santa Cruz rocks!
So I haven't had any problems with SBL 5.1 since i got 5.1 (when i installed THEIR drivers for 5.1) with my old computer, then my new computer had the same problems, same with another computer. So i said bah to creative and got two santa cruz's (Got oem from newegg for 62$, then a few days later it went on sale retail at circuit city for 39$)
So i tried un-installing the drivers in safe mode and not in safe mode via the device manager and the add/remove programs and it froze my computer each time, but everything else worked so i had to manually un-install them, call up tech support for the files to undo, ect.
Installed my santa cruz and drivers, restarted fired up winamp only 4.1 worked so went into the CP for it and set for 'virtual 5.1' to work, fired up winamp and 5.1 worked. So far (10 Min's into it) I love 5.1 and will sell my sbl 5.1's here later.
Finally i hear out of my third speaker which i haven't been able to do when i tried everything on my sbl 5.1. Good bye creative (Except for my Inspire 5.1 speakers by creative, they rock) |

yes, the turtle beach snata cruz card DOES rock.
when you were asking for advice for what parts to buy for your systems, i and others had recommended the turtle beach. you decided to buy the sb card instead...now you know why.
for anybody else looking to pick up a sound card...check out the santa cruz before you buy. |

OK, OK, I am still on the fence. Santa Cruz for $40 after rebate at Circuit City or the Extigy at Amazon for $77 after rebate. I am building a home entertainment PC and I think the Extigy is a little better for that. Tom's Hardware really liked it and had it on their 2002 Christmas wish list. |

I think you will be less likely to run into problems with the Santa Cruz. Also the Extigy needs a fastish CPU as the USB interface eats CPU time. |

jdurbin... the fence is never a good place to sit on. It's really not that soft, and gets to hurting after a while. You know you want the Turtle Beach anyway. |

Plus the fence has rusty nails on it.
As for john, i decided to read your message because there was no way you could put me down, but i was wrong
Reason why i never got the santa cruz when i was building my system is because i had the SBL 5.1 before i ever built this system, and WAY before i ever joined this forum, when i bought the SBL 5.1 i didn't know how horrible it could be with more then 4 speakers.

ineb, where did i put you down?
if you had the sb brought over from an older system, then fine. i've 'reusued' parts from older systems myself. but i did tell you that the sb drivers did have known problems with xp...so you shouldn't have been too surprised when you started getting problems on your system.
you are too "thin-skinned". if i post an opinion which is contrary to yours, then you seem to think i'm attacking you. when in actuality, i am trying to HELP you by pointing out something which either my own experience bears out or what i have picked up thru trusted sources.
well in any event, i am glad you're having a better experience with the santa cruz.

In your eyes it is helping, but since you upset me before with some rude comments i resent everything you say, not your fault but mine for not forgiving easily |
