Sound Editing Software

Is there any form of sound editing/mastering software out there (freeware or not) that I could use to clear up some stuff in a demo CD for someone? My brother gave me a demo disc of his band, but I want to get rid of the hiss (not sure what it was from, I think he said it was because of the recorder), and possibly put a bit more bass into it. If there isnt any, is there any audio recorder that I could DL/buy to rip the songs to wav format? I could use my EQ to clear it up a little bit by recording it from CD to my line in, but sound recorder only records so much before it stops. Thanks in advance, Matt.

I just spotted some mixing software stuff pretty cheap at CompUSA's anniversary sale web site. Why don't you check it out. I know almost nothing about that software so I wouldn't want to go farther out on the limb than that.

I like soundforge. Its really good, and you can get this plug in to remove the hisses and cracks. I tried it a few times, but it requires very precise settings. It took me a few times to run through to remove the hiss, the other times it took out parts of the song. www.sonicfoundry.com

Grab the lite version, it does 3 seperate stereo tracks, lots of plugins and such. Should do what you need, and it's freeware
