Help with microphone

I have recently purchased a plantronics headset with microphone. I am able to receive audio from the headsets but the microphone feature does not work. I loaded up audio recorder and tried to speak but it does not record. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes it does have two plugs. I placed one into the green slot for audio and the second into the pink slot of microphone. I am using onboard audio from an ASUS A7V333 MB.

First place I would check is in the sound and audio devices in the control panel, then click on the advanced button under device volume.........look for the mic volume setting in there and see if the mute button is checked..........a lot of times it's muted by default........also, in the sounds and audio device properties, click on the audio tab, and make sure that the on board sound is selected as the default device for sound recording......mine likes to change on me once in a while.........

Is this WinXP SP1? Right now I'm trying to find out why my Mic. no longer functions after I install SP1. I've got an MSI board with the KT133 chipset and onboard VIA sound.
