| Speaker suggestions.
Hey all. I'm thinking of picking up some speakers after Christmas. I was wondering if I could get some suggestions. I've heard good things about Klipsch but is there a significant difference between 5.1's and 4.1's? I mainly game and haev a DVD player for DVD's. I read the "? about Klipsch ProMedia 5.1" thread in this forum and the folks there say that gamers should go with 4.1's instead. True? Thanks for any help you can give. |

The reason that most gamers will not like a 5.1 surround setup is that the center channel will seem louder than the other channels and drown them out. This can greatly cut down on the "spatialization"(sp) that many gamers feel adds realism to games. However, if watching DVD's is more important to you than great sound realism in games (and you have the extra cash) then by all means get a 5.1 system. It really just depends on your needs and what you want out of the system.
BTW, I have never heard anything bad about Klipsch speakers, so they will be a great choice no matter which rig (2.1, 4.1, or 5.1) you decide to go with. It only took one listen in Best Buy for me to decide that these were my dream speakers. Now if I only had the cash.......

Iam thinking of getting the Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5700 speakers, I've heard lots of good things about them, and I've never had any problems with creative speakers before.

I just ordered the Logitech THX Z-560 4.1 speakers for my wife as one of her Christmas presents. I did some pretty detailed research, and came to the conclusion that they are a great value with great sound.
They are $140 from Newegg, and have some great reviews there.
I will be able to tell you more once she hooks them up on Christmas, but this will give you another product to consider
Good luck! |

What about going even cheaper and getting the Z540,5-piece speaker system? It is $57 at the following site. http://specs.emscomputing.com
I've been looking for something under $100.
I know the 560 has a lot more wattage but is it worth the extra $100 for that power? |

I'd go external all the way... 5.1 output from soundcard, dolby digital amplifier and home theater speakers
I've never used computer speakers, and never will

If you have the money, go with Muno's method. I do that and love it.
The Klipsch 5.1 has more power in the sub and the center channel, to sum it up. It also has a separate control module instead of the controls being on one of the speakers.
If you are going for gaming, get the 4.1, IMO. If I had to buy PC speakers, I'd definately get the 5.1 because I like the increased power and I watch DVDs.
Regardless, you cannot beat Klipsch in the pc audio department. NOTHING will.

how did the logitech z-560 speakers work out. I'm still debating on whether I'm going to buy them or not. |

I have the Z-560's, and i can tell you they are worth every single cent of their retail cost of $199.95.
They are as loud, if not louder then the Klipsch 4.1's, and also extremely clean sounding. No distortion whatsoever. for $140, they are an awesome deal. I haven't heard the lower end Z540's but judging by the drastic cut in wattage, with less then 1/4th the power, they probably can't even begin to compete. |
