Dell Dimension 4500 and a new sound card. Help!!!

Hello,

A friend of mine bought a new sound card - Sound Blaster 5.1 and Logitech 640 speakers. He has a Dell Dimension 4500 with integrated sound chip. I told him to disable the integrated card in BIOS and install a new card. He did that. However, he has to install a new card every time after restarting his computer. I am sure that both the card and the speakers are fine because they worked perfectly with my computer. Any suggestions? Thanks!

OS?

Have you also deleted the integrated sound card in device manager? I know Creative prefers that the drivers be installed by their program, not the add new hardware function in Windows.

Try this, uninstall the Creative drivers (and the integrated sound, if necessary). Reboot and close the New Hardware Found message when it appears. Put the disc in the drive and run the Creative driver install.

ahhhh

does anyone and i mean anyone have the answer to this. i have come to the conclusion the chipset is just dead. I have tried every single thing in original post all suggestions on ever google search.

1. Uninstalled/ reinstalled driver straight from dell dimension 4500
2. flashed bios
3. chipset update
4. putting in 2 other sound cards that work just find in other computers
5. enable/disable in bios
6. lots of other stuff i can't remember

no matter what, it installs the driver, but says there is a code 39 for it. Just puts the old yellow exclamation point on it in device manager. Same for pci sound cards yellow point! I not a genius or nothing but i am exceptional at fixing computers and i honestly think i have been defeated for first time ever in 10 years. Now i can probably change mobo out and make it work, but i need to know if this is fixable and i haven't found it, or if it really is hardware that is dead? Please lol

dell dem. 4500 all standard stock besides some addon hd's

Hello Gride and welcome to the forum....

With all of the install/un-installing, your Registry is probably a mess.
Un-install all audio devices/drivers. Download and run the Registry Cleaner in This until it comes back with no issues.

Get This from Microsoft, and run it. Pick an audio device and install it. If that don't work you may need to run the Repair Console from the OS install disc.
