DVD drive doesn't recognize dvds

sorry if there's an obvious solution to this, but i don't know alot about dvds.

Whenever I insert a dvd into the drive, the drive doesn't recognize that there is a disk there or gives me a "please insert a disk into drive E" message. It was working several months ago, but I don't know what happened.

Sounds like it's bad...check the connections to it - if that doesn't help try putting it into a different computer ... then try a different DVD ROM

It plays cd-roms fine. Should I update or reinstall the drivers?

is it a copy of a dvd or the original?

what brand is your dvd player?

check if there are any firmware upgrades for it.

and check if there's anything on windows update site.

i had something like this happen one time i had to uninstall my dvdplayer and my vid drivers and then reinstall.

that should take care of it. Unless you've added other drives and messed with the ide cables.

- reinstalled dvd software
- reinstalled drive
- reinstalled vid drivers
