For prolly at least 75%, maybe more like 90% of users these speakers are great.

Some people might tell you the sound quality sucks... but unless you are used to 200-500 dollar sound systems you wont care. Hell I used to have Harmon Kardon like 10W speakers about 3 years and they worked fine for most of my uses (including games/music)

These are nice speakers, and for the price they are VERY nice.

If you had more money burning a hole in your pocket however you might want to check out Logitech z-560s, tremendous increase in power (not that the 640s arent really powerful enough), for about 150 dollars

well I tested them and they are excellent for my room, it very small room so I dont need to much power to feel the power..... If I turn the volume too high my bro wil come and kick my butt.... actually he bang my door tonight a couple of times to get the volume down..... I love this speakers..... as you said they are very nice for the price.... I dont need yet a 250 system..

I had the Z-540's, which is the 4.1 version of this one. They looked like speakers, and kind of sounded like them too!

The sound quality was much less than satisfying, but they were good for the price.

Yep, the low-end Z series are definitely good for the price. I've got a set of Z-540s. I'm hoping to move up to the Z-680s in a few months though.
